Diamond Solitaire Ring

Just curious!! Is $8,500 alot for a one carat solitaire ring? Diamond of course! How much was your ring?

My boyfriend and I were just playing around online and went to tiffanys to find that a one carat 18k white gold solitaire, princess cut ring was that much. I know it is probably a very high quality diamond, but is it worth it to have Tiffany on the ring? I hear it is really desirable to have that brand!! Also what was the cost of yours/? http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10003 Link to tiffanys Lucida

  1. My BF bought me a beautiful pair of diamond-encrusted thongs from the Tiffany store. I know he paid a lot of money for them, but you cannot imagine how special I feel when I am wearing them.
  2. Holy crap that is WAY too much for a solitaire! My ring is 2 k with the past present future layout and it was about $2000. I would never pay that much!!
  3. I'm just here for Wonder's crusty thongs. Wait, what?
  4. if you're not planning on selling it, why does it need to be a "desirable" brand?
  5. Diamonds from Tiffany are of high quality, however, keep in mind that you are paying a premium for the name. So, you can probably get the same quality diamond elsewhere for a little less. When buying a diamond, you'll have to really choose between quality and price because the better the quality, the higher the price. Is $8,500 a lot for a one carat? That depends on what you're looking for. If you are looking to buy a diamond of the best quality, then that's probably a fair price for Tiffany's (although you can get it lower at the Diamond District). My ring was about $10K total, but I have a center stone that is a little over a carat princess cut and flawless set in platinum with trillions flanking it. For my husband, he was willing to pay the money for quality because it will hold its value.
  6. Yes it is a lot. You are paying for the Tiffany Name. My bf and I went shopping together for my ring. We took the diamond mini-seminar before we made a purchase. It is a 1 hour class that gives you a brief overview of clarity, cut, carat, color... Those are the "4 C's" you will need to keep in mind when purchasing a diamond. We purchased my 1.12 Carat Solitaire Ring With platinum (not white gold!) and the cost was $6000.00 The diamond was of the highest quality. And the ring and prongs were platinum which is much more expensive than white gold. That is a ridiculous price. You should shop around- unless you really care that much about having the name brand instead of a higher quality diamond and metal.
  7. For a genuine Tiffany, that's a low price. And yes, the name is worth it, if you are familiar with the Tiffany history. However, there is nothing wrong with an unbranded setting/diamond of the same quality, which would cost less. I am not sure what my fiance spent on my ring, he bought it, not me.
  8. I think I would not want a ring that cost that much, as it would make me worry about anything ever happening to it. My ring cost us 2K on sale. It is a bridal set, so I also have the matching band. The ring was worth 5K which is still probably a little more than I had thought. However, I am pleased with the ring I got and total weight of both rings is almost 2 carats. I would look around. Besides, only you and he would know where you go it and how much. No one else really needs to know.
  9. pffffft! you are obviously very materialistic and too concerned about what people think! Personally, i don't care much for brand name things. even if i had the $$$ for it i wouldn't spend that much on a ring. My engagement ring was about $600, 1/4 karat and i loooooooove it! simpler things just seem to have more meaning.
  10. My ring is white gold and has diamonds in it (bridal set) and only 300 plus the cost to soder it together. I am happy with what I have what is the point of having a ring cost so much. I guess some people dream big. My husband likes the fact that I do not have to have diamonds and I hate gold.
  11. Diamonds are grossly overpriced - something 1000%. However, this one is worse than most! Yikes! It is about 4x what comparable rings should cost. Granted, that does not take into account the quality of the diamond, but it sounds very high to me.
  12. My fiance got me a high quality 1k diamond engagement ring and when I got it appraised they said 6000. I would say that the extra 2.5k that you'd be paying is for them to inscribe Tiffany on the band. I think it depends on what your thoughts are. If having a Tiffany ring makes you feel special, then yes, go for it but if not, then you can easily use that extra money for something else for the wedding.
  13. Yes it is. Alot of it has to do with the name brand. You should be able to get a platinum setting with a higher quality stone color, clarity, cut, and certified than tiffany's (which are usually H/VS2, ETA (I am wrong, on the link it says excellent cut, IF-VS2 clarity on the tiffany so these are equivalent to what I have below. Color there is a big variation in price difference. The color on the tiffany site says D-I My ring is an emerald cut platinum set and was 4700. It's 7/8ths carat at .89ct (1ct is .95-1.05) and emerald's are less expensive, mine is E/VVS2 with excellent specs. Mine came from http://www.bluenile.com These are great too http://www.adiamor.com http://www.brillliance.com Ok from bluenile most of them with better quality are in a 5k range loose. All colorless all 1ct VVS2-VS1 with v.good to premium cut, good depth/table percentages, good girdle, very good or better polish and symmetry LD01445800 E/VS1 4,530 dollars so total 4860-5310 gold setting 330 for comfort fit, 2.5mm 3mm is 500 platinum in 2.5mm is 550, in 3mm 780 Others LD01115523 F/VVS2 (5150) LD01295143 F/VS1 (5370) LD01455637 E/VVS2 (5658) LD01068469 E/VS1 (5926) priciest: LD01074499 D/VVS2 signature cut, excellent polish, excellent symmetry 9,096
  14. you're just paying for the name on that one. And just because it's pricey, doesn't mean its good quality. Can you put a link up so we can see it?? edit-we bought mine from a wholesale jeweler....they sell to other stores-zales, kay, etc. We paid $550 for the setting and $1500 for the diamond. We saved 50% on the band and 40% on the diamond compared to what we would have spent if we got it at retail price.
  15. That's a bit much for a ring, so you are paying extra for the Tiffany name. My ring is white gold with black and white diamonds at $550.00. It's Oval shaped with the black diamonds in the middle, white diamonds on the outside a a couple of white diamonds on the band. I absolutely love it. And you know I'm just honored to have a ring. You can definitely find a better deal though. I've seen gorgeous sets for 1000 or 1500 bucks. Try amazon.com, kohls.com, walmart (yes I know but they do have some lovely bands), myjewelrybox.com for some ideas.
  16. I have a branded diamond w/ diamond setting that is much like the Tiffany brand (Hearts on Fire) and I love it. The ring was appraised for a ridiculous amount though (over $30K). However, I have found that the diamonds sparkle more than anyone else's that I've seen...by far. Tiffany has excellent diamonds but you do pay a bit more for the brand. My opinion is that if you have a ton of little side stones and want those to glitter like crazy too, you know what you are getting with the branded diamonds. If you are going for just a solitaire on a gold band, you could get a good diamond elsewhere for cheaper. Prices of diamonds have a really wide range. If you look on diamonds.com, the price range for a 1 ct. princess is $2000-9000 for just the stone. It depends on the specs...I'm sure you've heard of the 4Cs? Do your research and you'll find something that makes you happy. Good luck!
  17. It's not worth the money. The only important thing in a diamond ring is that you get the paperwork that proves that the diamond is colorless and flawless (I assume that if you are paying THAT much for a diamond that it is colorless and flawless). If you are paying for the ability to say "It's from Tiffany's" you are going to come across as a pretentious witch after about the third time you say it. So you are spending all that money to come across as a snob. That's your call.
  18. I don't think it's worth it to pay for a name brand like tiffany's. yes the diamond might be worth a lot but they mark it up because of their well known name. you can get that same quality diamond from another jeweler for cheaper I would bet. I don't know anyone who has a tiffany's ring, that only happens in the movies.
  19. 8,500 is a lot for one ring, especially if the carat size is small. Since it's Tiffany's you are paying for a perfect diamond. Having Tiffany on the ring doesn't really matter that much. If you are more worried about who's name is on the ring, instead of who is giving it to you, you might want to reconsider what you want for a ring. My ring was custom made at Zales. The diamond was appraised at 1500 dollars. It's a half carat. I couldn't be happier with mine.
  20. Way to much. My ring is 1 1/4 carrat and it retailed at aboyt $3200
  21. You are paying for the name just as much as you are paying for the quality. I have a 1.5 carat 18k White Gold ring and the matching band was 8 diamonds totaling .5 carats for a total of 2 carats all together and we did not pay that much for it. See I feel in love with the tacori designs and for what I have they would of charged me almost 10 grand. But we took a picture of the ring to my husband friend is a jeweler who does alot of his own designs so he did me a replica and plus gave us a friend discount the only thing by law he could not put tacori's name on the inside of the band like and original tacori would have. But the meaning of my story there are ways around those prices.
  22. Ya that is wayyy to much! I went to ashcroft and oak and got a 1 ct with 120 diamonds baggets and round all the way around the side and ten on my wedding band and we paid $6000!
  23. My ring has more than just a solitaire, but the main stone in the ring is about .6 carats or so and was appraised (just that diamond) at around $5,000 because it's a very good quality diamond.
  24. LIke others have said on here, your paying for the name, my mom has a FIVE carat ring (not all one diamond) HIGH quality, in yellow gold (we are allergic to nickel) and it was 1500 (got it from a pawn shop). It's RIDICULOUS to pay retail for diamonds and brand names, kind of like going to a brand new car dealership, paying 100K sticker price for a Mercedes (when as soon as you drive it off the lot, it loses like 20K of it's value or something) or going to a used car dealership, getting one maybe a year or two old and paying 60K for it. Shop around and educate yourself (about the 4C's)
